Apple Doily Crochet Free Pattern

This Apple Doily is an end of year gift for a special teacher. It is small lace doily, a little bigger than a coaster, fun and quick to work up. Materials: Size 10 crochet cotton, small amounts of Ecru, Red, and Green; size 7 steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: Rnds 1-2 = 1 ¼ inches

Finished Size: 7 inches at widest point.

Special Stitches:
   Shell: 
5 dc in st indicated.
   Picot: 
Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.

Rnd 1: With Ecru, ch 8, join to form ring, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), (dc in ring, ch 1) 11 times, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (12 dc and 12 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 3), (dc in next dc, ch 3) 11 times, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-5.

Rnd 3: Ch 8 (counts as dc, ch 5), (dc in next dc, ch 5) 11 times, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-8, fasten off.

Rnd 4: With Red, join with sl st in next sp, ch 3 (counts as dc now and throughout), 6 dc in same sp, ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3, * 7 dc in next sp, ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3; rep from * around, join. (42 dc)

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 5, skip next 2 ch-3 loops, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 5, skip next 2 ch-3 loops; rep from * around, join. (54 dc)

Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in next 8 dc, ch 4, sc in next ch-5 loop, ch 4, * dc in next 9 dc, ch 4, sc in next ch-5 loop, ch 4; rep from * around, join. (54 dc)

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, skip next dc, shell in next dc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, skip next dc, shell in next dc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, ch 5, dc in next sc, ch 5, * sc in next dc, skip next dc, shell in next dc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, skip next dc, shell in next dc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, ch 5, dc in next sc, ch 5; rep from * around, join and fasten off. Rnd 8: (PLEASE READ THIS ROUND CAREFULLY) * Attach Green with sl st to sc between next 2 shells, (ch 3, trc, ch 4, sl st) 2 times in same st and fasten off. * Repeat from * to * 5 more times. At this point, take the time to hide all ends carefully before moving on to Rnd 9.
